AI Assistant & AIBuilder Now Fully Supported in n8n
We are excited to announce that you can now fully use the AI Assistant and AIBuilder inside n8n with your subscription credits. This includes the Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans.
The Started Free and Enterprise Free tiers do not include AI credits, but support for YourOwn AI Provider is coming soon — allowing you to use your own external API keys and models.
AI Assistant Availability
The AskAI feature is now completely free and available to all users. AIBuilder actions consume credits depending on workflow complexity.
(Note: Additional AI credit purchases are not yet available, but may be supported in the future.)
How to Configure the AI Assistant
To enable AI Assistant and AIBuilder in your n8n instance, simply define the following environment variable:
N8N_AI_ASSISTANT_BASE_URL=https://n8selfhosted.com/ai/{LICENSE_KEY}
Once configured, n8n will verify each request to AIBuilder and AskAI through your license key and available credits.
About AI Credits
AI credits in N8SH do not behave like n8n.cloud credits. We cannot maintain a strict 1:1 token-to-message cost model like n8n Cloud, but our system allows you to generate highly complex workflows using 5 to 15 credits per generation.
In the future, we will be optimizing and reducing the cost to get closer to a 1:1 model.
